Ian Watkins Career
Lewis and Watkins started a band called Aftermath in 1991, but they didn’t record any music. They then formed another band called Fleshbind, which had a short lifespan. In 1995, Watkins reunited with Lewis in the hardcore band Public Disturbance.
Around the same time, Watkins and Gaze left Fleshbind to create their own band, Lostprophets. Lost Prophets performed for the first time in May 1997 with Watkins as the lead singer. Ian quit Public Disturbance to focus on Lostprophets in 1998 (all lowercase).
In 2003, Watkins collaborated with Hoobastank and Lostprophets. He also participated in a concert for Kidney Wales Foundation in 2008. Additionally, he worked with the Blackout and started a remixing side project called “L’Amour La Morgue” in 2009. Lostprophets released five studio albums and toured extensively.
In 2008, Watkins’ abuse and misconduct with children were reported to South Wales Police, but no action was taken. During a tour in 2006, band members and crew witnessed him with underage fans backstage. His drug use weakened his connection with his bandmates, who were ignorant of his behavior.
The alleged vitriol occurred in his personal dressing room while he spent most of his time in Wales while the remainder of the band resided in Los Angeles. A physical altercation between Watkins and bassist Stuart Richardson resulted in injuries after Watkins missed a show.
Stuart Richardson and Joanne Mjadzelics reported Ian Watkins for explicit images involving minors and drug paraphernalia. Despite numerous reports to the officer, little action was taken until Watkins was arrested in 2012. He pleaded blameworthy to various charges involving tried rape and sexual attack of a child under 13.
