Lesley Rene Stahl was born in Lynn, Massachusetts, United States, on 16 December 1941. She was raised in Massachusetts, where she spent most of her childhood with her family. She was born in a Jewish family, where she was raised by her parents Dorothy and LouisStahl. Her father worked as a food company executive.After completing her schooling, she went to Wheaton College, where she completed her higher studies and earned her bachelor degree in history. Later she wanted her master in it. Lesley Stahl is currently a widow, as her husband Aaron Latham, whom she married in 1977, died in 2022, after suffering from Parkinson Disease. She has a daughter with him as well. Previously, Stahl was married to Jeffrey Gordon from 1964 to 1967.

Lesley Stahl did her early schooling from Swampscott, where she completed her high school studies. She later went to Wheaton College, where she completed her graduation in history. She later did her majored in history there.
