Jesse Jackson Biography
On October 8, Jesse Louis Jackson Sr. was born in the beautiful city of Greenville, South Carolina, in 1941. His mother married Charles Henry Jackson, and he adopted Jesse as his own child. However, Jesse maintains a relationship with both men and considers them both to be his fathers.
Jackson grew up under Jim Crow segregation laws and attended racially segregated schools. He excelled in high school, becoming a scholar, class president, and a standout athlete. Rather than following baseball, he visited the University of Illinois on a football scholarship but afterward moved to North Carolina AandT, where he competed in quarterback and united civil rights protests.

Jesse participated in a sit-in at a white-only library. He was arrested and bailed out by his pastor. Jackson then worked with Martin Luther King Jr., establishing an SCLC office in Chicago. Later, he became the head of the Chicago branch of Operation Breadbasket and eventually left to start Operation PUSH, which aimed to fight racism and militarism. Through PUSH, Jackson implemented initiatives for the Black community, including the PUSH-Excel program for teenagers and children.
Jackson had a political career in the 1980s, operating for president as a Democrat. His campaigns concentrated on liberal issues like defense spending cuts, versatile healthcare, Palestinian statehood help, and drug regulation reform. He altered his perspective from pro-life to pro-choice.
