Scope after MBBS from Abroad: After completion of a graduate course in any foreign Medical College, a student can practice anywhere in India only after giving a screening test. But due to acute shortage of good and qualified medical professionals, Government of India has now decided to relax the procedure and is considering giving license to those medicos who wish to practice in their professions in India. Medical Council of India has thus been given nod to allow such practitioners to open up their medical fields only to increase the human resource.

Practice with degree

Being a medical practitioner is one of the most revered professions. A person after having successful completion of a MBBS from abroad can run his own medical profession in India. There are two forms of practices one can opt for. First one is in the government sector and the other one is private. In government sector the medicos can be recruited as a regular doctor or can work on contractual basis, whereas in private, one can work in corporate hospital.

Specialization

It is quite natural that most of the students opt for PG courses after completing a medical degree course. After getting a MBBS degree from abroad a big percentage of students want to pursue postgraduate courses. But because of fewer seats available, the selection process for getting admission in the PG courses gets tougher. Therefore students take few months break to crack either the 3 year MD or MS entrance examination or a 2 year PG Diploma. There are various fields medico students can opt for specializations. It’s a 3 year post-graduate degree in health administration which enables students to acquire skills in managing super specialty hospitals and insurance companies. It is a career opportunity modern days students are pursuing which pays back handsomely. M. Tech in Biological Science or in Biomedical Engineering is one of such courses where a student who believe in new innovation ideas and want to make their career in developing modern medical equipments or instruments for better health care.

Master in Business Administration is the other option students can pursue if they want to change their prototyped job in medical care to a new field. A medical professional with a professional degree in MBA is a much sought after job opportunity in the private hospital and pharmaceutical companies. Several Management Institutes like IIMs, MDI, Gurgaon, XLRI, Jamshedpur or FMS Delhi give opportunities to students with medical background based on merit list of CAT examination.

There are few pursuant who do not wish to stop their studies. They often go for higher studies or even go their PhD courses. The PhD course is for 3 years in reputed like Indian Council for Medical Research in India. Sometimes students go for Masters in Hospital Management courses. It’s a trend nowadays and has a very good career scope for the medical students.

Career Options

Because of huge competition either in undergraduate level or at postgraduate level in India, students opts for studies in abroad. There are few countries which offer PG courses to students according to their method of selection. The one such destination is America. For pursuing PG courses in America, USMLE-1 and USMLE-2CK examinations are conducted in India before appearing for USMLE-2CS in America. The United States Medical Licensing Examination is professional examiner under the aegis of Federation of State Medical Boards and the National Board of Medical Examiners. Doctors with a PG degree can appear such examination before they are permitted to practice medicine in the USA.

There are various institutes in India where fellowships courses are offered. Those students who have completed their post-graduation can avail such opportunities.
